This second week of school, we are getting used to having a new teacher and continuing to learn and to follow routines and procedures. We want to feel competent and confident so that we can learn a lot this year. Our morning meeting times will be focused on community building so that we can learn not only academics, but how to take care for ourselves, each other, and our classroom.
Read Aloud: "No David!" by David Shannon.
We really enjoyed this book and had lots of laughs. We are learning about what being a Peacemaker and what being a Peacebreaker means. We drew pictures of ourselves and shared how we can be a peacemaker at school, and how to solve a problem if someone is being a Peacebreaker. We are learning how to use the materials at our tables (crayons, pencils, etc.) so that we can have literacy centers soon.
Library: We are practicing how to handle books in the library during independent reading time. We are careful how we hold and turn the pages in our books, take one book at a time, and place the book back into the matching picture category basket.
Math: We had fun reviewing shapes such as Ollie Oval, Suzy Circle, and Hector Hexagon. We also practiced counting using the hundreds chart and did a shared math activity on the whiteboard using numbers 1-10. Again, we are working on using materials so that we can have math centers soon!
Please stay tuned for more!!
